The Fate Series by Heather Lyons

FATE SERIES BY HEATHER LYONS

I finally had a chance to read A Matter of Fate this past weekend, and let me tell you, I was completely destroyed.  I can’t decide if Ms. Lyons is completely sadistic or totally brilliant.  I seriously haven’t been this crushed at the outcome of a book since reading Empire of Storms.
I’m not one to give away spoilers in my reviews, but let me just say, HOLY LOVE TRIANGLE.  This is not just the passing wants of a teenage girl either, they are the deep, true, soul-crushing needs of true love; with both.  And they are twins!
Now that I am done gushing, let me give you a real review.  What I liked about the book :
Plot.  Very unique plot line that hasn’t been done thousands of times and it does not involve any vampires in love with human girls they can’t have.  THANK YOU!  This plot involve new things and new ideas and magical powers in a new realm that we get to learn all about thanks to Ms. Lyons great story telling.
Characters.  Many characters that are well-developed.  We learn about a whole new world and what it is like for different people living in that new world and how different people have different perspectives on it.  This multi-dimensional approach leads to a better understand not only of the characters, but of the world itself.  I also like how the younger, teenage characters ACT like teenagers at times.  Sure they may have more and bigger responsibilities than your average human, but they are still teens.  They have selfish at times, and confused, and don’t want their whole lives planned out for them, and question everything, just like teens are supposed to, and often do.  It helped me connect with the characters and for them to feel more real to me.
Wrap-up.  Sure this is a series of books, but this one didn’t just end in the middle of a paragraph like some authors are wont to do.  It is exciting and this particular plot was wrapped up and YES I want to now more, but I wasn’t left hanging on for the next book to finish the thought I was on.  I will be reading the next one, and the novella from Jonah’s point of view because I WANT to know what happens next, not because she left me hanging with incomplete thoughts or unfinished pieces.

5 Stars

A MATTER OF FATE (Fate, #1)
Chloe Lilywhite struggles with all the normal problems of a typical seventeen-year-old high school student. Only, Chloe isn't a normal teenage girl. She's a Magical, part of a secret race of beings who influence the universe. More importantly, she's a Creator, which means Fate mapped out her destiny long ago, from her college choice, to where she will live, to even her job. While her friends and relatives relish their future roles, Chloe resents the lack of say in her life, especially when she learns she's to be guarded against a vengeful group of beings bent on wiping out her kind. Their number one target? Chloe, of course.

That's nothing compared to the boy trouble she's gotten herself into. Because a guy she's literally dreamed of and loved her entire life, one she never knew truly existed, shows up in her math class, and with him comes a twin brother she finds herself inexplicably drawn to.

Chloe's once unyielding path now has a lot more choices than she ever thought possible.
